Because let’s face it…. the perfect cup of coffee is worth it.

Coffee extract vs coffee

The earliest coffee legend goes that in the 9th century an Ethiopian goatherd noticed how induced his goats became after eating coffee plants and started using the seed extracts to create a grainy water mixture for himself. We all know what coffee is but extraction is an essential aspect of the centuries-old process that is least understood.

In simple words, coffee extract is the substance extracted from real coffee beans with oils and caffeine. The coffee we all love to consume is a mixture of several ingredients in water which includes coffee extract.

Does coffee extract contain caffeine?

The answer is yes. The caffeine content in the extract depends upon the type of coffee beans used for extraction. The process of making the extract involves dissolving the coffee beans in ethanol which contains alcohol. Caffeine easily dissolves in the ethanol which means the extract has the same amount of caffeine as the coffee beans themselves. Therefore, heads up your day and take a greedy snippet of ready-made and intense coffee extract!

Is coffee extract the same as coffee essence?

Basically, they both are flavoring integrants. Coffee extract is formed by infusing oil from the coffee beans which are coarsely crushed and emulsifying it with alcohol over a period of weeks. As this hand-on cost many hours! Alcohol, a magic ingredient, yeah seriously! As it acts as a solvent that excerpts solids and crux of those finely-crushed coffee beans. So, why we are doing this? First, to intensify the shelf-life of the flavoring agent so that it can replace the so-called vanilla extract in any recipe, like in Fluffy Coffee Pancakes, YUM! And second, that polyphenol antioxidants can yield some astounding health benefits and prevent us from cancers, heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, and even neurological ones. This description is given by Leonard Rauwolf, a German physician, after returning from a 10-year trip. Another excuse to blend this at home! Whereas, coffee essence, can be in two forms such as, it can either be an imitation extract or it can be a highly concentrated form of pure extract. Its aroma is like coffee, its punch is like coffee, it is forged of coffee – It is delightful! One example is Camp coffee, a type of instant coffee syrup formed from sugar, water, ‘coffee essence,’ and chicory. So, just use it on cakes, in iced beverages, on gelato, garnish varied fruits in it, the alternatives are endless…

What is coffee extract used for?

How many of you intuit that coffee extract could be such a handy yet scrummy addendum to your kitchen pantry? No one, right! It may be sound a bit obscure but for sure the coffee extract should be moved to the front of the kitchen closet right behind that pitcher of vanilla.

This magical elixir is used to accentuate the flavor of any recipe, especially all the chocolaty stuff like cheesecake, pots, mousse, profiteroles, terrine, soufflé, lava fondant, or a melt-in-the-middle pudding. Mouth-watering! Also, used as a great replacement for espresso powder in all of your flattering, cocktails, or dainty servings. This amazing, luscious black extract is used as a one-to-one trade-off in all your bakery items such as bars, cookies, desserts, muffins, doughnuts, or even tortillas. And you know what? Its application just not halt at bakery goods, literally! You can also treat your steak’s marination, soups, tomato sauces, salsas, or beefy gravy with a heaping tablespoon of this extract.
